Srikant Kumar Jena Releases the Statistical Year Book 2013 and the Annual Report of Twenty Point Programme

Shri Srikant Kumar Jena, Minister of State (Independent charge), Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation released the Statistical Year Book, 2013 and the Annual Review Report of Twenty Point Programme (TPP). The Statistical Year Book (erstwhile Statistical Abstract) being published by the Central Statistics Office, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation for past several years, is one of the vital instruments designed to meet the ever growing diversified range of information requirement. 
The present publication i.e. Statistical Year Book 2013 is the 46th edition of the annual Publication. It contains both time series and cross sectional (State Wise/ Zone wise/ City wise) information on socio economic and environmental aspects, covered in forty five chapters including the newly added chapter on Millennium Development Goals. 
The coverage includes subjects like National Product, Five Year Plans, Public Finance, Taxes, Balance of Payments, Banks, Insurance; various sectors of economy viz Agriculture, Industry, Mining; chapters on trade, transportation, tourism  & infrastructure like Roads, Civil Aviation, Indian Railways, Shipping; social sectors like Housing, Education, Labor & Employment, Health & Family Welfare, Rural & Urban Development; chapters on Environment & Forest, Rainfall and a variety of other subjects ranging from Crime & Accidents to Electoral Statistics, India G20 & World . 
Shri Jena said that the Year Book contains voluminous data and is being brought out in CDs to facilitate the use of the data for further research. The publication has also been uploaded on the website of the Ministry (www.mospi.nic.in) for wider accessibility. 
Besides the data and graphs, the publication also includes commentary on various subjects with an aim to contextualize the data by providing global socio economic scenario, government initiatives related with the issues, achievements and challenges etc. Trends and highlights at national and sub national levels have also been provided along with international comparison wherever feasible.
On the occasion, Shri Jena also briefed the media about the TPP. He said that the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is mandated to monitor the performance of the physical parameters of the TPP and has developed a web based MIS system to collect information from the States and Central Nodal Ministries. The Ministry compiles the information so collected and brings out the Annual Review Report. 
The Annual Review Report of TPP provides great insight into the functioning of all the programmes covered under TPP-2006. The report also serves as an input to policy makers and Administrators for initiation necessary remedial measures for bringing our improvement in various programmes.
