Meeting of Governing Body of SAI

42nd Meeting of the Governing Body of Sports Authority of India chaired by Shri Jitendra Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs & Sports was held on 17.12.2013. 

At the meeting, the Governing Body took a number of important decisions: 

- professionalizing the management of the National Sports Federations (NSFs) by the appointment of qualified CEOs in NSFs whose remuneration will be borne by SAI, 

- promotion of sports in tribal, J&K, NE and naxal affected areas to promote indigenous sports by setting up of Special Area Games (SAG) centers, 

- setting up of the ‘world-class’ Sports Museum at the iconic Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi, with technical assistance from professional agencies and support of corporate organizations 

- setting up of private academies to be run by eminent sportspersons/agencies at SAI facilities across the country on revenue-sharing basis 

- setting up Sports academies by SAI to nurture talent of young sportspersons 

- renting out the various stadia and the attached areas for non-sporting events to augment revenue generation and to better utilize of legacy infrastructure 

- promotion of Budo in the country by setting up in the first phase, a pilot center for Budo at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. This would help to promote self defence training of women. 

The Governing Body took note of the fact that SAI extends substantial financial assistance to the recognized National Sports Federations (NSFs) for following activities 

- holding of national/international championships, 

- cost of participation of Indian athletes in the events held abroad, 

- purchase of equipments, 

- engagement of foreign coaches & other experts 

- use of SAI infrastructure. 

The financial assistance given by SAI to the NSFs during the past four years was as follows: 

- 2009-10: Rs.8020.41 lakhs, 

- 2010-11: 10337.18 lakhs, 

- 2011-12: 13603.38 lakhs 

- and 2012-13: 13057.26 lakhs 

The Governing Body decided that all NSFs receiving financial support from SAI must recognize the contribution of SAI by prominently displaying the SAI logo in all publicity material, official merchandise, and sports kits during all domestic and international sporting events.
