Shared Value Workshop Organized by DPE


New Delhi:(Page3 News Network)-The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), Government of India in partnership with the World Bank organized an orientation workshop, Creating Shared Value through Corporate Social Responsibility in India, for Public Sector Enterprises in Mumbai. Sh. Praful Patel, Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises while delivering the inaugural address, highlighted that CSR was ingrained in Indian ethos. He said that India was a fast growing economy with enormous entrepreneurial skills. Leaders of the Industry endowed with correct mindset, had the potential to become the world leader in harnessing CSR for inclusive growth and sustainable development, he said. 
In his Keynote Address, Mr. Onno Ruhl, Country Director, The World Bank shared his experiences in the field of human development and spoke of how Indian Industry has developed into a global player and that companies like Amul had pioneered inclusive growth through work with dairy farmers at grass-root level, changing lives and enhancing income, empowering women, and at the same time reaping benefits to the business. He spoke about how companies through adoption of shared value concepts could tackle challenges of poverty and malnutrition in India. Sh. O. P. Rawat, Secretary, DPE spoke about the important initiatives taken by the Department to develop and evolve robust policies and guidelines on CSR. 
The World Bank provides technical support to the Department of Public Enterprises and as a part of its advocacy work, the World Bank shares with DPE the best global practices in CSR adopted by the developed and developing countries worldwide. CSR is a subject which being debated worldwide, and India as a developing and fast growing economy needs to understand various perspectives of CSR and devise workable implementation models to achieve inclusive growth and meet Millennium Development Goals. 
The Workshop organized on November 8th, 2012, explored the concept of Creating Shared Value (CSV) proposed by Harvard Professors Michael Porter and Mark Kramer, the founders of FSG as consulting group working worldwide in CSR and human development. CSV proposes the concept that CSR needs to be embedded in core business strategies of companies; it should not be reactive and ad-hoc but must be proactive and strategic. 
The workshop designed as an interactive training program presented to participants from leading public sector enterprises the concept of shared value in terms of business gains and social value creation.
